A Brigus, Newfoundland Wedding // Danny + Katie

One of my final weddings of 2017 was definitely a favourite! I've known Danny for a long time so it was a real treat to be asked to photograph his marriage to Katie in beautiful Brigus, Newfoundland. Danny and Katie planned a intimate rural Newfoundland wedding followed by a casual pig roast at the Families summer home nearby in North River. Their wedding was very much a representation of the two of them and it's proof you don't have to follow trends when planning your big day! Congratulations again Katie and Danny!

About the Bride + Groom

We met in grade 8/9 through Katie's cousin and Danny’s friend, Nick. Years later Katie FB messaged Danny while living in Vancouver, and before long messages and texts turned into trips across the country, then dating and now marriage! From Danny - "I have wanted to marry Katie since I met her in grade 9".

We started planning a year ago, but really everything came together in the last three weeks.

More about their Brigus Wedding

We love rural Newfoundland - the people, the scenery and the feeling it gives us. Over the years both our families have spent a lot of time in Brigus, and we thought it would be the perfect Newfoundland “destination” wedding location.

Ceremony: St. George’s Church, Brigus. Reception: North Side Cafe in Brigus. After-party: Grandpa’s home in North River.

Dress: My mom’s wedding dress she made in 1982, and altered by Rodney Philpott, with additions from my grandmother’s wedding dress and great grandmother’s brooches.

Brides favourite moment: The ceremony - our vow exchange, our niece Havie's song, and our cousin Andrew Wadden officiating the wedding; Maid of Honour, Emily King, singing the Little Mermaid at the reception.

Grooms favourite moment:  My favorite moment hands down was when JP had myself, the groomsmen and bridal party all lined up behind the B&B, and Katie tapped me on the shoulder. I had complete butterflies at that point and will never forget it. Everything was important and memorable, but outside the B&B, Katie’s vows were so sincere and heartfelt it made me cry, and the speeches by everybody were just completely honest and true. I loved it all!

Advice to couples currently planning their wedding: Stay true to who you are as a couple. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box with regards to location and flow of events. Do what feels right for you! The Groom's advice - Do what feels right for you! Do the wedding you want as a couple, not for the people you have going. In the end, everybody will love it because they love you!
